UST is searching for a Sr. Data Engineer who will gather large and complex data sets that meet business, functional, and non-functional requirements.
The Opportunity
- You will need to create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: audit problem causality, indicate component or application improvements, and propose better models for common issues.
- Create analytics tools that use the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.
- Work with stakeholders, including executive and product teams, and data consumers, to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data consumption needs.
- Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What You Need
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a degree in computer science, statistics, information systems, or another related field.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational and non-relational databases, as well as familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Experience creating and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and big data sets.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience and analytical skills related to working with unstructured data sets.
- Experience managing message queues, stream processing, and highly scalable data warehouses.
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
- Strong experience using the following software tools: Haddop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL relational models
- Experience with Azure Cloud and services such as Cosmos DB, Azure Data Lake, and Azure SQL
- Experience managing streaming processing systems (Storm and Spark Streaming)
- Experience with object-oriented languages such as Python, Scala, C++, Java, and Go
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD)
- Experience managing software containers and automation (Docker/Kubernetes, Ansible/Puppet)

Tasks And Responsibilities
- Be responsible for a consistent and accurate database within the organizational management (OM) and data management process.
- Manages the entry and workflow of personnel actions (PA) and organizational management (OM) transactions in HR GHP/SAP for client groups and business areas, such as hire, rehire, promotion, demotion, separations, deceased, assignment / country transfer, cost center changes, position changes, organization unit updates and structure, etc., ensuring alignment with HR process, (leaves, payroll timelines, etc.) programs (benefits, compensation, etc.), data governance, legal guidelines and policies.

Who You Are

- At least 1 year of proven experience with HR Data Management administrative processes, ideally in an international environment along with a good knowledge of HR interfaces.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HR Organizational Management and Personnel Data Administration SAP with demonstrated data management experience.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel) and SAP HR.

The Position

In the Master Data Specialist role, you are responsible for the dedication towards undisturbed business activities by committing to Service Level Agreement. What You'll Be Doing
- Monitoring database performance and optimizing query execution for efficiency.
- Ensuring data integrity, availability, and recoverability through backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Troubleshooting database issues and providing timely resolutions.
- Collaborating with developers, analysts, and IT teams to design and optimize database structures.
- Automating routine database administration tasks using scripting and database tools.
- Managing database access and user permissions based on security best practices.
- Building ETL (Export, Transform, and Load) operations to warehouse, data lake, etc.
- Designing and maintaining databases with strong SQL experience.
- Data Analysis and Data modelling with cloud data platforms.
- Staying up to date with emerging database technologies and best practices.
- Effectively collaborate with business stakeholders, ML engineers, and data engineers.
What You Have
- 3 years of experience in database administration, management, or related roles.
- Expertise in relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Proficiency in SQL scripting, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and access control.
- Knowledge of database monitoring tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
- 3-5 Years strong experience of building data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. (Python, Spark, Snowpark, SQL etc.)
What Will Make You Stand Out
- 3+ years of database administration experience. (SQL Server / Postgres)
- 3-5 Years strong experience of building data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. (Python, Spark, Snowpark, SQL).
- Strong background in data modeling and implementing robust monitoring/alerting strategies for production data pipelines.
- Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g. Sigma, Tableau, Power BI) for creating impactful dashboards and reports.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with SCRUM.
- Good understanding of Data Science or Machine Learning practices.
- Certifications on any of these data platforms SQL Server, AWS or Snowflake is plus.

We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering & Analytics team. In this role, you will collaborate with our clients to address their most complex needs, working alongside a team of highly skilled engineers and architects. You will also be involved in strategic enterprise data projects and large-scale implementations.
Responsibilities:
- Support projects leveraging an agile delivery model through requirements gathering and documentation, data ingestion pipeline development, and technical testing.
- Contribute to project delivery in the following ways:
- Add configurations for data enrichments such as lookups, type conversions, calculations, and concatenations
- Add data quality rules
- Connect to new data sources
- Map multiple sources into a single output
- Interpret error messages to troubleshoot data pipelines
- Create outputs that facilitate reporting, dashboarding, and semantic modeling for tools such as Tableau and Power BI
- Test data pipelines to ensure accuracy
- Work closely with our clients as part of the development team to gather technical requirements and develop solutions
- Coordinate activities with data source application owners to understand the underlying data, ensure integration and data integrity
- Build relationships with clients through written and verbal communication
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of hands-on professional development experience, consulting experience preferred.
- 1+ years of experience working with Databricks
- Experience writing complex SQL queries related to data manipulation strategies
- Experience building or working with metadata-driven ETL / ELT patterns and concepts.
- Experience with Spark, Databricks, Kafka, Kinesis, Hadoop, and/or Lambda.
- Exposure using ETL tools (Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Informatica, Talend, IBM DataStage, etc.), database platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse, or Oracle), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Experience in technical testing, issue identification and resolution
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must reside in Costa Rica
